Many people start getting fit with very high expectations, then give up. They work out for a few weeks, check the mirror, and notice that nothing “dramatic” has changed. So, why bother?
But the issue isn’t with your motivation or your effort, it’s with your approach.
- You’re expecting the results to happen faster than they will
Fitness isn’t about a few days, or a few weeks. It takes time.
What happens in the beginning:
your body starts to adapt internally
your strength increases
your habits start changing
… but it hasn’t changed visibly.
If you quit early, you miss out on everything.
- You’re not training consistently
Working out intensely once in a while doesn’t produce results. What produces results:
working out consistently, 2-4 times a week
sticking to your schedule
repeating the same thing over and over again for a long time
Consistency beats intensity every single time.
- You’re not working out in a structured way
Random exercises = random results.
Without a plan, you might:
miss out on training important body parts
repeat the same workout, day after day
miss out on tracking your progress
A good enough plan is a much better plan than “no plan.”
- You’re not paying attention to recovery
You don’t build muscle or get stronger in the gym. You build muscle and get stronger between sessions.
If you:
don’t get enough sleep
don’t rest enough between sessions
don’t recover
…your results (or even the lack of results) will show.
- You quit before it works
Most people quit just before their results start working. It goes like this:
Week 1-2: You’re excited and motivated
Week 3-4: You’re starting to doubt yourself
Week 5+: Results begin to show
If you get through the “boring” phase, you win.
Summary
The world of fitness is simple, but it’s not easy. Fitness doesn’t require you to do a perfect job. It requires that you keep showing up.
And results? They happen if you show up consistently, have a clear plan, and give yourself time to succeed.
The most important thing you need to know about fitness: Most people don’t fail because they can’t do it. They fail because they quit.
